Visiting the High Line in the middle of winter is not a popular activity for many New Yorkers - it’s cold, sometimes wet and certainly not brimming with flowers and plants. When I visited this public park during the summer after it opened and then a couple times during the autumn, rarely was it empty. People filled up the permanent wooden lounge chairs to catch some rays, and it was hard to walk through without maneuvering through children, couples and people gawking at the Standard Hotel above. Today though, there were stretches of the High Line that I had all to myself. Yes, it was cold, but well worth the peace and quiet of one of New York’s most popular outdoor spots.
