As far as cupcakes go, I’ve gotten over it. Like many women, cupcakes for me were the indulgent treat of choice, but lately I can actually say that I’m not that into them anymore, except for when female friends come to visit. Last week, I had two friends in town and went to two different cupcake places – Baked by Melissa (which I wrote about in a previous post) and Sugar Sweet Sunshine. Located in the Lower East Side, this neighborhood cafe and bakery is indeed a little ray of sunshine. For a $1.50, I had a red velvet cupcake with vanilla butter cream frosting. Even though I was bummed that the frosting wasn’t the sweetened cream cheese that make red velvet cupcakes so tasty, it was still delicious. The frosting was light and not too sweet while the cake part of the cupcake was moist and fluffy.

Never have popcorn for dinner before a run

Perhaps I was too casual about my 4-mile race this morning because last night, after having one and a half fried chicken sliders, a handful of fries, and a pint of cider in the afternoon, I wasn’t hungry to have my usual pasta dinner before race day. Instead, I convinced Eric that having popcorn with soy sauce butter (very tasty!) drizzled on top would be enough of a meal before my race. I was wrong. At the end of each race, I like to do an all-out sprint, as if I was actually a competitive athlete and those last 20 seconds mattered. This morning though, it was more like a spirited jog, with long forced strides. I’ve yet to find out what my time was, but I suspect that it’s not anything to brag about.

Update: I did better then I thought, in fact about a minute faster than my last run. In runner’s speak, that’s considered pretty good.
