Zumba
I can finally say that I’ve tried Zumba. My local New York Sports Club gym has a Zumba class every Thursday and for 45 minutes, I am shaking my hips, jumping up and down, swaying from side to side while doing cardio salsa moves. For those of you who aren’t familiar with this cardio-craze that is sweeping New York, Zumba, according to Zumba.com, “fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms” into “routines (that) feature interval training sessions where fast and slow rhythms and resistance training are combined to tone and sculpt your body while burning fat.”
Seriously, it is a helluva work out and for the majority of the class, I’m just trying to follow what the instructor’s doing, so I’m not even thinking about how tired I am! I love to run, I don’t mind the elliptical and I generally enjoy working out, but if I’m dancing my ass off while also burning calories, hell, I’ll do it! The class moves quickly, literally, because during each song, there’s intense workout and then a very short, maybe 15 second break to stretch and breathe. It definitely gets your heart pumping fast and also works out muscles that using cardio machines don’t, like your hips.
