Loops_Radiolab →
This doesn’t have anything specific about NYC, but it’s about loops and since this tumblr is called looping, I thought it appropriate to post. Plus, it’s a good listen!

Zumba
I can finally say that I’ve tried Zumba. My local New York Sports Club gym has a Zumba class every Thursday and for 45 minutes, I am shaking my hips, jumping up and down, swaying from side to side while doing cardio salsa moves. For those of you who aren’t familiar with this cardio-craze that is sweeping New York, Zumba, according to Zumba.com, “fuses hypnotic Latin...

Boat Basin Cafe
On hot summer days that meld into the evening, many New Yorkers search for comfortable outdoor seating to drink and dine. My local favorite is theĀ  Boat Basin Cafe because it has something for everyone. There’s happy hour at the bar with a decent selection of tropical drinks including frozen margaritas, pina coladas and mai-tais. There’s also a ton of seating. Some seating overlooks...

Grill 21 - Tasty Filipino food in Stuyvesant Town,... →
It’s Cinco de Mayo and how am I going to celebrate? By going to my favorite Filipino restaurant in the city. I know, it’s not related, except for the fact that there may be tripe, in something soupy, salty and good washed down with some cheap beer (reminiscent of many a Mexican-food experience). There’s also outdoor seating, and with current temperatures in the high 70s and sunny...

Father remembers his sons on 9/11 →
Heard this story on the radio this morning (click on title above to hear it yourself). One compelling thing he said was that the last thing he said to both of them was “love you” and the last thing he heard from both of them was “love you.” From StoryCorps website: Retired New York City firefighter John Vigiano Sr. remembers his sons, John Jr., a firefighter, and Joe, a...

Held captive by air-conditioning
It’s past noon and I haven’t left the apartment. Today is a day off, but I still have pitch letters to write and errands to run. I was going to go to the gym, but decided to send one more email and read one more news article and never left. Then I thought I’d make my way to Barnes & Noble and that may still happen as soon as I finish writing this post. I find it hard to leave...

MJ on the Subway
Sitting on the subway today on my way home. I had my iPod but hadn’t synced any Michael Jackson songs on it so I was fiending and settled for some other R&B singers. But, then I noticed that the girl sitting next to me was listening to some MJ, so I turned my iPod off just to hear the faint finger snaps, beats and heel clicking.

Thunderstorms
I’ll confess — I’m a wimp when it comes to thunderstorms. In San Francisco, thunderstorms are a rarity and happen once maybe twice a year and always in the winter. But here, they happen in the summer and it’s happening right now as I write this post. This has got to be the fifth, maybe even sixth storm I’ve experienced in the past two months and I’m getting sick...

Now modern Harlem building stays in the family →
I’m obsessed with home re-models projects, particularly when it comes to an old decrepit building being turned into a modern-styled one. This Harlem project intrigued me because I live fairly close to this building and people tell me that Harlem is increasingly becoming more gentrified. Neighborhoods change, that’s a fact of urban development and this building was in the family for...

Cars by the hour
I’ve been a car-owner since I was 17 years old. With my first driver’s license at hand, I had access to my brother’s hand me down car — a Ford Escort. It was a stick-shift so my oldest brother had to teach me how to drive it. I remember on one windy and sunny day, we practiced in a parking lot next to the freeway, and soon after I got into first gear for the first time, he...
